Pizza dough?

Does anyone have a recipe for pizza dough? I have tried a handful but it never turns out quite right. The last one I tried was like eating floured cardboard. I have been using the frozen dough recently, but I would really like to make my own.

I make mine in the bread machine. I don't have a recipe for regular pizza dough. I would love one though. We eat a lot of homemade pizza. Frozen pizza dough is expensive.

Do you ever watch the food network? Here is Bobby Flay's recipe for pizza dough. I do believe this man could make dirt taste good. I love to watch his show and to see him on Iron Chef America. Don't you?

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups bread flour, plus more for rolling (Chef's Note: Using bread flour will give you a much crisper crust. If you can't find bread flour, you can substitute it with all-purpose flour which will give you a chewier crust.)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 envelope instant dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups water, 110 degrees F
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus 2 teaspoons
Directions

Combine the bread flour, sugar, yeast and kosher salt in the bowl of a stand mixer and combine. While the mixer is running, add the water and 2 tablespoons of the oil and beat until the dough forms into a ball. If the dough is sticky, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together in a solid ball. If the dough is too dry, add additional water, 1 tablespoon at a time. Scrape the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead into a smooth, firm ball.
Grease a large bowl with the remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil, add the dough, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it in a warm area to let it double in size, about 1 hour. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into 2 equal pieces. Cover each with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let them rest for 10 minutes.

Thank you for sharing Rayne! That looks easy enough. I could probably make that. I think we are going to have pizza at some point this weekend. I have all of those things on hand so I will give it a try.

Thanks indeed! We are going to get a new bread machine within the next week or two, the one they sent us was broken in a spot that prevented it from even turning on. If it is that easy then anyone in the house can do it and nothing is better than fresh dough!

I am always experimenting with different dough recipes myself. I have yet to find "the one". I just used this one tonight and it was decent. It didn't have to be raised and the yeast didn't have to be proofed either so it was really a dough that could be used in a time crunch.
